When was LEROY MERLIN created?
LEROY MERLIN was founded in 1923 in France by Adolphe Leroy and Rose Merlin, as a store which sold American military surplus. However, 10 years later, they began to offer home building kits and other building material. Because of the success, the couple expanded the business and started to open more stores in northern France.
It was in 1960 when the company changed its name formally to LEROY MERLIN. However, it has grown up and has become part of Group Adeo. Nowadays, LEROY MERLIN operates commercially through 32 autonomous companies in 13 countries, while in South Africa it has 4 physical stores and one online.
